Instructors

Instructor Team

A team of dedicated and experienced instructors is vital to fulfilling the club's aims.  At HDKD you will find all of your instructors approachable and friendly and dedicated to upholding the high standards of both conduct and karate required by the club.

All club instructors have an up to date enhanced CRB check, so you have peace of mind that they are true professionals and cleared to work with children and young adults. We currently have two of our instructors who hold First Aid qualifications and the club aims to provide all instructors with this vital training shortly.

Black belt instructors all have their Black Belt certification registered on the IMASA Dan Register, which validates their karate credentials.

Sensei James

Sensei James

James has trained in karate for many years, in June 2014, after a very gruelling grading assessment, he successfully achieved the grade of Nidan Black Belt. In June 2017 he went on to achieve the grade of Sandan Black Belt.

Sensei James was awarded the honour of Instructor of the Year Award, voted for by the students themselves, in December 2013, highlighting his popularity amongst our students and the high regard in which they hold him. More recently, he received this accolade for the second time in December 2015.

Do not be deceived by James’ stature, his kumite skills are not only strong, but quick. He is a conscientious karate-ka, who likes to perfect all his techniques and is adept at passing these skills onto others. James has a calm, professional manner about him, which never fails to put nervous students at ease. He is a tremendous asset to the club and a superb role model for young people.

As Assistant Chief Instructor, he assists Sensei Ann-Marie with the organisation of the club. He plans and delivers seminars, acts as Head Judge at tournaments and stringently upholds the high standards expected of all our students within their grading process.
